The Ouse Hospital

Last week a lady in her 80’s took a bad tun at a function in New Norfolk. Those with her thought it was a heart attack (it wasn’t) and sent for an ambulance. The New Norfolk ambulance was not available, and it took nearly an hour for one to arrive form Hobart. After stabilising her, the paramedics declined to take her to Hobart for checking, saying that she would have to wait hours for attention and it would only make her condition worse. A local doctor took charge. Suppose this had taken place at Osterley or Maydena. How long would it have been before she was able to get help? How can the Health Department say so glibly that prompt help is always available and that the Ouse Hospital is unnecessary?
